The Rhode Island Republican Party is the affiliate of the United States Republican Party in Rhode Island. Giovanni Cicione is the Party Chairman; Pat Sweeney is the Executive Director.

History

The Republican Party was formed by former northern anti-slavery Whigs, Democrats, and other northern politicians. [1]

The anti-slavery Republicans absorbed most of the American Party, Whigs, the Know-Nothings and Unionists by 1857.[2]
